Hello, world! TwinTiki enters the fray!

- The idea -

We're in an Aztec battle arena, two twin-headed creatures are preparing for combat. Four players grab their controllers firmly and take their pick for which Tiki they want. Player one and two are merged into one. From now on they share their body and soul. The same happens to three and four. They're now ready for some arm-swinging spell-slinging!

'Raw' version of the concept:

An arena brawler where two players go up against two others. Both teams control a single creature, where each person has control of a single arm, but both feet. Coordinating your movement makes you move faster, while being uncoordinated can slow you down or even put you to a stop. Either player can start preparing a spell, after which they get a window of time to execute one of the specific arm movements you need to cast one. (E.g.: A very simple spell could be tossing a pebble, where the stick movement is down-left-up

Spells you can cast are determined by the Tiki you and your partner picked before starting a match. Each Tiki has a spell that can be cast with a single arm and can only be cast by that arm. They also have a spell that can only be cast by using two arms, so both players will have to coordinate their arm-swinging to get that one done. Every combination of Tiki also has a 'signature spell' that requires two arms and complex movements to pull off. This adds up to being able to cast 4 different spells per Tiki and 5 per Twin.

The goal is to get your opponent to no longer walk upon this earth while keeping yourself in top shape.  (That's done by getting their HP to zero and keeping yours above zero.)

- Questions we asked ourselves -

Is our mechanic fun and why?

We still don't know if our mechanic is fun , right now it feels really weird.

Camera view point?

We are not exactly certain what view point we are going to take, but we are not doing a top-down or a side view point. It is going to be  a third person camera view, but where it is going to be we are not certain yet (looking down at the character, straight behind it, looking up to the character).

What feeling (from the environment) do we expect the player to have?

We want the player to feel impressed by the game and feel immersed in the game.

Which type of player is suited for our game?

Explorer : Because you can travel to different rooms to discover different things.

Socialiser: Because you have to play with 2 players.

Achievement hunter : Because accomplish things like: faster time, more damage, rare rooms etc.

Griefer : Because you can mess with your friends, if you mess up your spells on purpose, you can rename stuff in weird ways

- Problems with the game -

  • The arm movement is hard to get right, and it does not feel right in this implementation.

- What worked? -

  • The art direction went right
  • The idea of the spells

- Plans for the coming week-

  • Changing how we control the arm movement
  • Making the blockout of the first zone
  • Target we can deal damage to
  • Spells we can cast
